This talk is about how Terry Wahls, MD has changed the course of her Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an “immune-mediated” process that attaches the central nervous system. It that is considered to be progressive and non-reversable. Her physical health was rapidly deteriorating with years of medication and conventional medical treatment. It was then that Dr. Wahls turned to nutrition. She has been able to reduce her MS symptoms by altering her dietary intake. It’s truly a miraculous transition from being non-ambulatory to fully functioning once again.
I first saw this TED Talk about 2 years ago and it is still one of the most impactful talks I have ever seen. When speaking on the importance of nutrition in our diets, controlling what we put into our bodies, this video/talk is great.
TEDx Talks – “Minding Your Mitochondria” by Terry Wahls, MD
It’s so much more than cholesterol, blood pressure, calories, fat, weight loss, etc. What we eat affects us at a our cellular level, the very make-up of our body and how we function. Our cells need the proper fuel to run as healthily and efficiently as possible. You wouldn’t put regular unleaded gas or water in a diesel engine. Same principal applies to our bodies.
Eating properly will help change the way you move, how quickly you recover or how well you defend sickness, injury, pain, depression, anxiety, “aging”. It affects how well you perform on all levels with any activity you can think of that we, as humans, perform.
Please think about what you are eating, how you are eating, and how it could be affecting your life in ways that you have never thought.
I always encourage clients to eat healthily to get the proper nutrition whether it’s to help in the process of reducing pain and recovering from injury, or to help prevent injury and improve performance.
Terry Wahls, MD also has a website that has more educational resources and discusses her “Wahls Protocol”. There are DVDs, Books, a Blog, and more available on her website. I have not read anything else by her, but plan to in the future.
