You have to move better before you can move more.
Movement by Logan, LLC is a fitness, training, and health service providing comprehensive and unmatched product that focuses on improving your overall performance. Performance training is not only a term that relates to athletes, it relates to everyone, and whatever you enjoy to do.
Over the years, and especially more recently, I have realized that something very big is missing in the medical/fitness world. There is little-to-no link between physical therapy, fitness, nutrition, and performance though there is significant over-lap between all. And the link that is present, is poor. There is also a huge misconception by the public at large of what exercise, health, fitness, and pain truly are. The idea behind Movement by Logan is combining all of these facets together to provide the best product for our clients. Movement by Logan is about promoting a healthier lifestyle overall, and providing education to clients so they not only understand what they are doing, but are able to detect and correct potential issues yourself.
I have always had the idea of this concept, however it really came together in early 2014 after attending the Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement System Syndromes – Introduction to Concepts and Application, by Shirley Sahrmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA at Washington University in St. Louis. It is also at this course where I got to meet and speak with Mike Reinold, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS (MikeReinold.com). Shirley Sahrmann and Mike Reinold really helped the concept develop more clearly in my mind. At that time, I was better able to understand that this is how personal training and physical therapy should be one in the same, combined, to create the best model for helping to prevent pain/injuries, address pain/injuries, and improve performance for all aspects of life.
This concept is the future of fitness and physical therapy, and I am brining it to you now. This is how to improve your health and prevent problems in the future. You do not have to be in pain. Do not accept pain as a normality.
Philosophy behind Movement by Logan
Throw away whatever idea you have of what you think of physical therapy, because M. by Logan is not that. Throw away the term physical therapy all together. Think of Movement by Logan as personal fitness coaching or training, performed by a physical therapist. So what does that actually mean….
There is no quick fix. Sure there are things that can be done to help you feel less pain quickly, however they typically do not address the root of the pain or injury. The body is based on movement. The body has to move to be healthy and work properly. It is the movements that are ingrained in our systems that we perform without thinking, that actually cause many injuries and pain.
Doctors of physical therapy are experts on the musculoskeletal system and human movement. We understand injuries and pain. We, especially at Movement by Logan, look at pain and injuries based on the quality of movement of the body, joints, tissues, etc.
Movement by Logan focuses on enhancing the movement of the body to move as efficiently as possible — in turn reducing chances of onset of pain by decreasing aberrant forces on the body; or abolishing the pain if already present.
Upon improving quality of movement, your performance will be enhanced in all aspects of your life, from walking to work to exercise to sports. Smaller controlled movements are a precursor to bigger, more powerful movements.
A main focus of Movement by Logan is to get you to feel better or stay healthy, by moving better. I focus on the way you feel, being pain-free, performance and good quality movement, therefore improving the way you look, your tone, and weight – not the other way around. This sets Movement by Logan apart from the majority of other physical therapy clinics and personal training facilities.
All of this takes a lot of education so that you are better able to understand your anatomy, positional senses, and your tendencies towards compensatory strategies to better understand your movement.
You have to learn how to move and control your body. You have to have a good understanding and relationship with your own body, so you can then be aware of how you are moving.
The goal is always to get to fitness, but it has to be done correctly.
Movement by Logan combines physical therapy and fitness training. As a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), I am able to assess and address injury or pain. You are not required to see a physician prior to a session with Movement by Logan. (Learn more about Direct Access)
Any injuries or pain will be addressed prior to or while progressing with fitness and performance training. Having a DPT degree means, that I not only am I an expert on the musculoskeletal system, injuries, and movement, but that I am also able to perform hands on, manual soft tissue work. The model used by Movement by Logan also allows us to work on the whole body, and train while also treating. All of these skills put together in one product, is unique to Movement by Logan.
I am also currently studying to be able to better educate and guide my clients with nutrition.
